THE 2018 RUN:
The 24th Westward Ho Run starting point is The Bowlers Arms public house in Wash Common Newbury - https://www.facebook.com/thebolwersarms on Friday 23rd March and will finish in the central car park in Lynmouth in the early morning hours of Saturday 25th.
Having departed the “Bowlers Arms", the run will take you 60 miles or so to the first rest area, for a 30 minute break. The second stage is once again 60 miles or so ending in a one hour rest stop, where there will be some refreshments available. The final stage is also 60 miles and takes you over Exmoor at dawn and ends in the main car park in Lynmouth at approx. 8:00am. Tea and coffee are provided on arrival and then it is off to the Bath Hotel for a “full English” and a nap. Just in case of problems, a backup van will follow the riders over the full route to assist with repairs or pick up break downs. The arrival chat usually contains questions of “what happened to Joe at ----“? Or “did you see where Jim went after ----“?, but once the adrenaline has been washed away by a decent hot drink the riders settle into a contented camaraderie in anticipation of breakfast and a well earned sleep
Lynmouth is a beautiful village and harbour which can be explored on Saturday afternoon, or you can take the funicular cliff railway to Linton and admire the fantastic views. An event dinner takes place at the Hotel in the evening, and after a good night’s rest a relaxed journey home can be made on Sunday.
So there it is; a challenging journey early in the season, to get you into the motorcycle riding spirit for the rest of the year. An early excuse to shed those winter blues, get off your backside and fettle the bike and its lights in order to prove to yourself that --- “hey yes, I can still do it”
Do you really think that you could do it ? Of course you could ! So go on, prove it to yourself.
